    Conducted By : C B S E

Industrial waste in modern times is one of the biggest menacing problems faced by us. Rapid expansion of smaller industrial units of yester years, fuelled by ever increasing consumerism have made them money minting ever expanding monsters dumping their unplanned waste into our environment and thereby poisoning it. The Industrial revolution brought new automated processes going from hand production to machine production, brought chemical use, big scale iron production and use of different kind of fuels other than traditional use of wood. Though we have advanced to 21st century with this industrial revolution, but we are now paying a heavy price which if not checked right now, our future generations may have to pay a hefty price.

"Voh neela aasmaan". This Hindi phrase if translated to English means "Oh..That blue sky". I remember, since childhood I seldom had the opportunity to see a clear blue sky which the beautiful tales of my grandmother used to be filled with. When I was still in kindergarten, I looked up at the sky occasionally and found grey sky and used to think that maybe this is because of some kind of weather change. But as I grew up, I learnt that the real causes for this change are the unmindful dumping of the industrial waste.

It is high time that we wake up to this life threatening problem by spreading awareness and educating all stakeholders. Audio visual method is the best method of learning anything. So, to spread awareness about the hazards of Industrial waste, I plan to create a short film by pooling resources firstly within our society group. I plan to create a fund by asking for small donations from markets where people spend money on junk foods and other wasteful activities. I plan to organize many pools of friend gatherings, make handbills and placards about the project to create awareness. Say by means of short films about the hazards of industrial waste and asking for small contributions. With these contributions, I plan to approach area elders for their share into this project. Then I plan to take this fund creation further into the nearby industrial areas and mobilize whatever resource I can from them as well. With this fund, we will visit the industrial belts in and around our city, film the actual effects of industrial pollution like soil contamination, water contamination, people who are actually physically affected by this and are suffering. This film than can be telecasted on the most popular and far reaching electronic media which is Television. Such a powerful and moving film where people can actually see the ill affect is bound to create mass awareness.

In the next phase, I plan to create a group of kids who will be trained on a presentation on how their young and innocent life is affected by the mindless dumping of industrial waste. This group accompanied by environment NGOs and senior citizens of our area, will actually visit the polluting industrial units with their presentations and try to convince the units to adopt environment friendly methods. Sometimes it might happen that the owners of the respective industries may not easily give in to our demands. But I firmly believe that with good training and effective presentations by innocent kids, even the most reluctant people opposing change can be brought around. Such is the power of innocence, I feel.

Another strategy could be to create small felicitation ceremonies and some small memento or appreciation certificates to be awarded by these kids to the big industries and to the factory owners who do not dump its wastes in public areas or to factories which dispose or treat their toxic effluents in proper ways.

As a final step, this well trained group of kids again accompanied by environment NGOs and senior citizens will visit the Government departments dealing with industrial wastage and environment, pleading with them for effective implementation of rules and regulations.

I firmly believe if the respective departments wake up fully to their duties and implement rules in full force, this problem cannot go unchecked. Why I advocate using young innocent well trained kids for my campaign is for the simple reason that kids are incarnation of god and innocence personified. Even the most stone hearted and strong minded would bend down in front of young innocent kids!
