Golden Period Activities Of Classes I To XII

To ensure proper and all-round development of the students in ASN, the day starts with the precious and auspicious 'Golden Hour'.

The morning assembly in the School provides energy and inspiration to the youngsters. Mass Prayers, News Reading, Hero Worship, General Knowledge, Quiz, Thought for the Day, Mass P.T. are some of the activities that are conducted during this period by the students themselves under the guidance of the teachers.
The objective is to mould and shape the students to be humanistic in values and competent in the field of education, sports and co-curricular activities.
 
GOLDEN HOUR MORNING ACTIVITIES

1. A short and a sweet prayer: Emphasis on

  • Control of mind and body
  • Learn to pray for others
  • Learn to thank God for his benevolence.

 

2. Dial around activities: 

  • Emphasis on: Melody, rhymes and rhythm
  • Develop the listening skill:  Story session with didacticism
  • Invoke their thinking skill: G. K. session - Know and learn
  • Develop the skill of public speaking:  Talks and interaction classes, enaction of a small piece

3. Development of healthy body and mind:

  • Mass drill, simple yogic exercises.

4. Develop the skill to learn through factual experience and the power of observation:

  • Nature study in a nature corner, learning by doing.
 

 

Education is not filling up a bucket, but lighting a fire.

 

“Along with time tested and skillfully designed curriculum we try to bring about an all round development in a child”.

THEMATIC UNIT (LEARNING   BY  FUN) :   (MONSOON) -August

 

 

CLASS I 

ACTIVITY 1- INTRODUCTION OF WATER CYCLE

 

 

The concept of Rain Formation and Water Cycle was introduced to the children in the form of a story – Drippy the Raindrop. The story is about the adventurous journey of a raindrop-  Drippy, from the oceans to clouds and then back to the oceans in the form of rain. The children were also introduced with the terms Evaporation and Condensation with the help of this story. The children then expressed about the concept in the form of a sketch of the water cycle.

 

 

ACTIVITY 2 -ART AND CRAFT

 

This was a group activity of craft done by grade 1 students. The children used cotton balls and scrap paper to decorate the chart of a water cycle. The artwork was created by tearing and pasting paper together to create a picture. This was a great visual to make children understand the concept of water cycle.

 

  

ACTIVITY 3- WORD GRID & PICTURE COLOURING

 

The word search puzzle and a coloring worksheet was provided to children. This provided a fun way to reinforce the words related to monsoon. The picture was coloured by children by expressing their imagination in the form of colours.

 

 

ACTIVITY 4 -SAFETY AND HYGIENE DURING RAINY SEASON

 

Hygiene is a habit that needs to be focused on and inculcated in children at an early age. Keeping this in mind the children were made aware that rainy seasons brings with it a host of bacterial and viral breakouts  like  diarrhea dengue, malaria, cold and cough. Tips for Maintaining hygiene around us was explained to children to ensure that they do not turn into breeding grounds for bacteria and viruses.

 

 

 Class II 

 

ACTIVITY 1 -Rain Formation Process in Chemistry Lab

 

The children visited the chemistry lab to understand the process of water cycle and rain formation.Using the tripod stand,burner and glass sheet the processes of Evaporation and Condensation was explained.This experiment served as a visual aid and helped the students to get a clear idea of the terms associated with rain formation process. Observations were made and they came to discover the results from the investigations. These experiments and observations by the students fascinated them in finding answers to their questions related to rain formation and the processes involved in it.

 

 

Activity 2 Rain Water Harvesting

 

The concept of Rainwater harvesting was explained to the children and the advantages of accumulating and storing, of rainwater for reuse was also discussed wih them.The various techniques involved in it was also explained(surface level and ground level).The students then expressed their observations pictorially in their G.K notebooks.They were made aware with the fact that their school(A.S.N) has its own Rain water Harvesting plant which is being used for watering the playground and other important purposes.

 

 

Activity 3 - Safety and Hygiene (Collage making)

This was an interactive way to teach children the importance of Safety and hygiene during monsoons.This activity was a constructive artwork done by the children to unleash their creative side.They were made aware of the Do’s and Don’t’s to be taken care of during rainy season which they later on expressed in the form of a collage.The collage included slogans,newspaper articles etc related to various diseases like malaria,cholera and flu and their prevention.

 

 

THEMATIC UNIT:   SAVE  YAMUNA (Class I and II)

 

Journey of River Yamuna : Students were made aware of the fact that Yamuna is the most sacred river and is also a lifeline to millions of Indians who live along its course and depend on it for their daily needs.They were explained about its origin in the form of a story.

 

 

ACTIVITY- DRAW and Colour (Class I)

 

Children were asked to draw their Dream river Yamuna and colour it. They expressed their imaginative ideas in the form of their drawings.

 

ACTIVITY-COLLAGE MAKING (Class II)

 

They were explained how YAMUNA is suffering  from extreme pollution levels, which is affecting millions of people. They were explained about how the various  industrial wastes and other pollutants are affecting it. Children wrote slogans and made banners, collages to sensitize the society about the need to preserve river Yamuna. To save the River Yamuna from further pollution the students joined hands in the campaign    which the   School has organized.

 

THEMATIC UNIT :  INSECTS (September)


Children explored the amazing world of insects. They were briefed about the basic characteristics of insects and the difference between insects and their close relatives like spiders and other creepy crawlies!


ACTIVITY:SCRAPBOOK

Children were asked to bring pictures of any five insects and some amazing facts about   each of them. Each child presented their facts in the class.They pasted the pictures and facts in the scrap book. This learning journey was used as a resource for developing their awareness   about  BUG’S LIFE!


CLASS ASSEMBLIS


CLASS I

Assemblies were held regularly to bring students together, creating a sense of community. Students focused on one goal that is expressed through the assembly presentation. Combined assemblies on various topics such as general awareness, safety, skit on Ramayan were organized by classes.


CLASS II

All the classes have been given opportunity to select a theme and then prepare an assembly on it. It includes following subheads like news, current affairs, music, dance, thoughts and role play. The whole class participates under the guidance of the class teacher. The theme is selected keeping in mind to inculcate moral values, general awareness et.al. The topics like SAVE NATURE, HEALTHY FOOD, ENGLISH GRAMMAR, SENSE ORGANS, and NATIONAL SYMBOLS (on the occasion of  INDEPENDENCE DAY) were depicted with great enthusiasm by the students.


CALENDAR EVENTS


BEST OUT OF WASTE

Children are seen as being pretty creative and imaginative. To bring forward their open wonder and talent, Best Out Of Waste competition was held in the school on 19/12/2011. Children made creative things out of waste material available at home. Criteria of judgement was based on neatness, presentation and creativity of the work.


PUPPET MAKING

Children are fond of making puppets and enact stories with their help. There is something magical whenever a puppet comes to life in our hands and makes us smile. We conducted a Puppet Making Competition on 23/12/2011.Children made variety of puppets like stick puppet, finger puppet, socks puppet etc. They were asked to bring their own material required.

On the occasion of Christmas eve, all the classes made a big stocking separately and children were asked to write their wishes and promises on a piece of paper and put them in the stocking. Children have brought decorative pieces to decorate the stocking and in the break time they had a class party to add more to the essence and enjoyment of Christmas.
